2024 Session:
June 26 - July 31

Written Expression 2-2: Grammar & Composition

Designed For: Rising 9th and 10th grade students

Content: The goal is to maximize readiness for the demands of Upper School writing.  A process approach to constructing a structured five-paragraph essay is used. Grammar, parts of speech, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary are included. Attention to detail, neatness, study skills and habits form the course foundation. Pencil and paper writing requires planning, forethought and careful organization. Short story readings supplement daily expository writing with academic purpose.

Materials:
  • Wordly Wise, Book 6 (EPS)
  • Evergreen with Readings (Houghton Mifflin)
  • Characters in Conflict (Holt)

Placement in the proper level of writing benefits from input from those who know the student’s writing well. Current teachers should be consulted about placement.

It is usually helpful if an academic writing sample corrected by the teacher can also be submitted.
